The Women's basketball team opened up the season on Friday night against the SAIT Trojans. The Clippers came out with a tough but promising 58-66 loss.
The Clippers started the game off strong against the Trojans, seeking for their first win of the season at the Reimer Memorial Gym, under new head coach Danny Vincent. The Clippers started off with a 7-0 run off the bat, the Trojans responded about half way through the first quarter closing the gap to a 17-13; the Clippers led by the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter started with little scoring from both teams, the two teams went back and forth until half. At the end of the first half, #10 Anegor Woi was leading the way with 9 points for the Trojans and for the Clippers, #11 Adrianna Beck finished the half with 9 points. Closing off with a Clippers 30-28 lead into halftime.
Early in the third quarter both teams were moving the ball around; getting more aggressive as the game went on. Neither the Clippers or the Trojans let up, going both ways for almost the whole quarter. The Trojans came out on top at the end of the third quarter 43-47, the Clippers leaving no breathing space for the last ten minutes of gameplay.
In the fourth quarter, the Clippers fought hard to keep the game close; coming out in the fourth quarter with a six-point deficit. The Trojans hustled to increase their lead to double digits. The Clippers fought harder though; with two minutes left in the game they closed the Trojans lead to just 56-57. In the dying seconds of the game, the Trojans hit a layup resulting in a foul. The Trojans hit another six points before the buzzer finishing 58-66.
Player of the game for the Clippers was #11 Adrianna Beck finishing the game with 16 points and four assists in one fantastic game.
The Clippers play the St. Mary Lightning Saturday at 1:00pm.
